CORE Communiqué February 2008

President's Message

Dear CORE Members and Friends,

Happy New Year 2008. It is an honour for me to introduce myself to you as the new Chief Executive Officer and President of CORE. I'm very happy to be working with the Board of Directors, Members and Business Community at large to help CORE achieve its mission of becoming Canada’s premier provider of high-quality outsourcing research and education.

This is an exciting time for CORE. Since the last newsletter, CORE launched its accredited education program, and was engaged exclusively to develop and deliver custom outsourcing education to a leading multinational corporation marking our first foray onto the international scene. As many of you know, we recently released a seminal report on the State of Canadian Outsourcing that includes data on publicly announced outsourcing deals in Canada over the past five and a half years. Plus we have an incredible lineup of events for spring 2008, with three major conferences planned.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have reached out in these first weeks of my tenure to share your thoughts and ideas and I look forward to meeting many more of you over the coming months.

Best Regards, Molly Pellecchia

3. The State of Canadian Outsourcing: Research Briefing

On January 24, we issued our first State of Canadian Outsourcing research report, at a briefing at the Marriott Eaton Centre hotel in Toronto. The report, which was based on outsourcing transactions entered into between 2002 and 2007, provides revealing information on the size and makeup of the Canadian outsourcing market. Some of the key findings of the report include:

- $50 billion in outsourcing transactions were entered into between 2002 and 2007.

- There is a shift in the market towards more activity in application development and maintenance outsourcing.

- A number of very large deals, in excess of $ 1 billion have occurred in the market. These deals, which generally large elements of business process outsourcing, make up almost half of the total market size.

- The financial services sector is by far the largest in outsourcing, followed by telecommunications, public sector and energy/utilities.

The report also describes trends in how large organizations make outsourcing decisions and manage outsourcing relationships. The full report and the database of outsourcing transactions, on which the report is based, are available to our members through the CORE members site. We will also be issuing supplementary reports - look for the next one in the next quarter.
