CORE Communiqué February 2010Thursday, February 11, 2010 President’s Message Hello CORE Members and Friends, Hope you are all well. The beginning of 2010 kicked off to a great start with the launch of the Outsourcing Monitor. This new initiative is a partnership between CORE and IDC Canada and we plan twice a year to publish information on the Canadian outsourcing market, providing you with market information, activity and commentary on outsourcing trends. Our first report, updating the market activity since June 2009 with a focus on offshoring was communicated via webcast on January 19th and below you will find the link to the webcast. We hope you will find the information both interesting and valuable. We had a great audience for the Risk Management Forum held last week. Vaike Murusalu with Biovail Corporation led an excellent discussion on the top 10 post deal risk mitigating factors from a risk manager's point of view. She was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Michael Hart talking with Charbel Bachaalani (Bombardier), Rob Quail (Hydro One) and Evette Wade (CIBC). This part of the program was recorded and it will be worth listening to the panel tackle key risk management issues that arise after the contract is signed. Look for the audio link on the members' portion of the website next week. On March 3, 2010, join us at the Rotman School of Business for a breakfast forum on Outsourcing Creation and Innovation. Our speakers are Dr. Kevin Fehr, Director R&D Alliances, GlaxoSmithKline and Norm Bolen, President & CEO, Canadian Film & Television Production Association. In recent years large pharmaceutical companies have forged strategic partnerships with outside organizations to develop new products. Similarly, television broadcasters have formed partnerships to create new content. This forum will examine how these organizations have managed these partnerships to drive innovation and content creation. Should be interesting learnings and I look forward to seeing many of you there. CORE's Annual General Meeting is scheduled for April 22, 2010 at 7.30 am EST at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (the morning of our annual conference). One of the most important items on the AGM agenda is the election of Board Directors. Five new directors will be recommended to the voting membership at the AGM. The nomination process is provided below and is also available on our website. If you are interested in joining our Board or have a recommendation, please contact John Simke, Chair of the Nomination Committee prior to March 12, 2010. Our executive education program continues to grow and we continue to be excited about the participation from so many organizations supporting us in delivering this high calibre outsourcing program both in Canada and internationally. We are especially pleased to announce this month, that our latest recipient of the Accredited Outsourcing Practitioner designation is Keith Fairbrass with Unilever Global. Well done, Keith. Below is more information on the program as well as new sitting dates for several of the modules. This month our newsletter - What's New - focuses on how the demand for outsourcing services is on an upswing. However, some key perspectives on the global fiscal and political conditions need to be kept in mind. Enjoy this compilation of articles and events from around the world. For our friends out west and for the many heading out to beautiful Vancouver in the coming week, enjoy the games - Go Canada!
